The past few weeks I have been learning a TON from two powerful experts. In fact…I learned so much from them that I have to hold off learning from other sources to concentrate on applying what they taught.

First one.

A man who read AT LEAST 10 FULL BOOKSHELVES of marketing, leadership and human psychology books to built the $20 million dollar information marketing business he is running today.

Eben Pagan repeat his kindergarden education, dropped out of high school, worked in a metal workshop earning scars over his body…worked and learned hard to built his business and his multi-millionaire status that he is today.

To top it off…he has EXCELLENT presentation skills. He is really good with bring ideas across to people. Don’t believe me?

Go to http://www.gurumastermindvideoblog.com and watch his free videos he posted there.

Those videos are actually a promotional package for his GuruMastermind training program where he will be teaching people how to build their business. The application for his program is now closed, but the videos are still there. So check them out before they are taken down.

The next guy is someone who spent 6 years slogging hard building his network marketing business. His story of working damn hard is one of the most humbling I have come across. Calling 100 leads per day and working as a waiter in a resturant (far away from where he live to avoid being spotted and laughed at by his friends) during the day to survive…just imagine that.

Well, now Mike Dillard is one of the leading experts in the network marketing industry, and his free videos have taught thousands (myself included…I watched them again and again over the last few weeks absorbing every cranny bit of information) a new way to build their network marketing business, where prospects call the prospector how to join him or her.

I have already implemented some of his teachings along with what I have learned from the $100 eBook I purchased last month. And it has shown RESULTS. :-D

Watch his videos. Highly recommended.

It’s always GREAT to find REAL EXPERTS who have slogged hard and long to get to where they are now, and who are willing to share their lessons for free. It like striking gold….I’m honestly telling you.

These 2 guys are REAL diamonds among the piles of bulls**t out there. Guess I’m very lucky this month to have come across these 2 powerful business builders.

Okay…back to re-watching their videos.

Till next time.

Woo…past few weeks after exams been rather exciting. The fantastic feeling of able to apply what I learn and see results is coming back again. The feeling which I lost since school started last August. Nice to have it back…lol

I had finally started reading a book which I purchased last July but haven’t touched till now. And it’s was a pot of gold sitting on my bookrack for the past 9 months!

John Caples’ Test Advertising Methods

http://www.OnlineMLMSystem.com/resources/testedadvertising

FANTASTIC BOOK about copywriting. Everything page is packed with information, and the data in this 5th edition written in 1997 is as relevant as it was written around 50 years ago. A GREAT CLASSIC.

Also spent another US$100 on another ebook about building an online network marketing business…focusing on a particular strategy using Web 2.0 technologies. Again without calling any leads. Another great buy for this 3 months holiday.

It was a great for the past 3 weeks…first attending the National Achiever’s Congress held by Success Resources. Got a great motivational recharge and learned lost of great stuff about sales and going after goals. Many thanks to Roger who gave me a free ticket to attend this event!

Next it was re-listening to an audio interview of a very successful internet network marketer, which I first downloaded and listened to last Dec. Now armed with his ebook on using Web 2.0 technologies…I building up and improving my own prospecting system, coupled with a back-end training system for my team mates, a project which I contributed with Roger while school was still going on.

A back end training system set up and a front end prospecting system nearing 1st stage of completion.

And coupled with John Caples’ great book, the information on how to write copy and ads properly to communicate with prospects is going to improve my work tremendously.

Always keep learning and applying!

Things are rolling along quite well. Can’t help feeling excited!!

Alright! Back to work!

In my last post I mentioned how frantic I was constantly catching up with my studies.

And I have almost lost touch with what’s going on around. Spent the last 2 days reading blogs finding out what happened during the last 2 months or so.

Just happened to drop my Wordpress.org for a while and realized how much has changed! Just upgraded my Wordpress installation this morning, and am VERY impressed…especially the automatic plugin upgrade feature. It’s SO CONVENIENT now to upgrade plugins. No more pesky downloading of plugins and uploading them into my server one by one. Just go to the plugin page in your wordpress admin page and click on the upgrade link. It’s done in a few seconds. FANTASTIC WORK by the wordpress team!

Below are some of the screenshots of the new interface. Looks great!

My exams was over last Thursday, and so is my first academic year at university. It’s really one hell of a ride. The learning pace moves at an unbelievable speed, and the amount of stuff I have to learn in such a short span of time can really put you down on your knees.

But still, I learnt alot from my business course, and so glad I choose this. Of the 13 modules I took up this academic year, I found 5 modules very useful.

  • Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Information Technology
  • Organizational Behaviour
  • New Venture Creation & Business Plan (One of the modules I took for my minor)

After taking the exams for the first 4 modules and going through the last one during my 1 week holiday back in March, I started to see a glimpse of how a business actually works.

Marketing and Organizational Behaviour let me see how corporate level entities market their products and how to get the best performance from your employees. I learnt numerous marketing frameworks…such as the 4Ps, Michael Porter’s 5 forces, Segmenting Targeting Value…all provide me with great insights in how I can improve the value of my business in the eyes of my customers. Organizational behaviour is more complicated to me…but really showed me how important it is to get your teammates, employees to work together to achieve results and the social dynamics behind them. Very interesting and useful stuff!

I’m have been a IT geek for as long as I can remember, ever since my mom let me play a spaceship shooting game her 486 computer. Now taking this IT course introduced to me all the numerous information systems that corporations use to manage their data and bring these data to the right employees at the right place and time for them to deliver value to the customers. The first few parts of the IT course was a little dull to me, since they were teaching all the elementary stuff such as parts of the computer and the software that runs on them.

Still learnt new stuff though. The most value I found out of the course is about data management systems talking about Enterprise support systems…RFID systems and such. And over the past few months I have been reading in The Economist and other sources about how Google, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, SAP are in constant competition to organize information for their customers. Realized somehow that information is the future commodity, and decided I will be going into this area to poke around. Quite fascinating how mundane data like how many times a mobile phone user check his or her SMS can actually translate into money.

Of all, I found accounting to be the most important and value added for me. I learnt how numbers can really make or break your business, how all the different ratios indicate the health of your business. Inventory Turnover Ratio…Cost of Goods Sold…Inventory Holding expenses…Impairment loss…and such. To be frank, I wasn’t particularly enthusiastic at the amount of ratios I have to memorize to get through my exams, but I’m glad the curriculum is intense…allowing me to learn so much within such a short span of time, though my grades definitely isn’t good at all. Still can’t generate correct and balanced cashflow statements though, lol.

The module that actually placed everything together in perspective however, is the New Venture Creation & Business Plan module which is part of the Entrepreneurship Minor program I took up. It ran for 1 week during the holiday period, and as with the Entre Minor it was quite intense, working through the nights for over 35 hours. It basically a simulation game, where our cahoot form into small teams and compete with each other. The simulation program is very intriguing…requiring us to built manufacturing plans…employ sales personnel and provide training programs for them….studying user preferences to get across the right message to them in our marketing campaigns…there are some illogical stuff in the simulation, but overall it was a rather complete system giving us a glimpse of how a business runs. It required us to put our accounting skills, marketing knowledge and strategic thinking together to make the right decisions.

Our team actually went bankrupt for that game though, lol. But this module, especially since our team sort of failed the business, I learnt what are the critical factors a business need to have to look out for. And again, accounting shows you where you have gone wrong and what you have done correctly. Great, fantastic stuff.

Come to think of it…it’s unbelievable how time flew by so quickly. I’m no longer a “freshie”…some of my friends are graduating and entering the workforce…and how much I have learnt. Can’t believe the post about my freshman orientation camp was made about 8 months ago.

Now entering into my 3 month holiday break before my second academic year starts. Now aware of how tight time can be, and what my limits are…I have to get my stuff running full steam ahead and on its own before school starts again. From what I heard from my seniors, 2nd year will be even harder. Judging from my slow learning pace…I’m not sure I can build my business and study well at the same time. My 1st semester was rather disasterous so to speak, thinking I can handle everything. Really show me where my limits are.

Alright! What a long post. Back to work!

Finally…a post. LOL

I mentioned back in Dec that I shifting a majority of my time back to my studies, and have not been the most active working on my online stuff. Still, just received about US$100 in affiliate commissions…to keep myself smiling.

For the past weeks since mid Feb, I have been working closely with Roger Loh and some of his friends at Autopilot-Profits on a backend office system that will automatically guide prospects through their first few weeks of building their business online. Though progress has been a little slow, much of the content for the first few weeks have been done.

We are now tweaking the system and running through it again to make sure as many holes are patched up before we launch the system, which should be at most 4 weeks away. For myself though I have to shift my focus to my exams starting in 3 weeks, and 5 weeks later I will be launching a FULL FORCE marketing campaign throughout the 3 months holiday to fully secure a channel of passive income for myself.

After which I will start the 2nd year of my university studies with a brand new laptop and a much fatter wallet. :-)

I was home in the afternoon after having a great steamboat session with my family at my aunt’s place, checking my email.

I received a mail from Success University saying that they have upgraded their back office systems and provided many new tools. Most of which improves the way you review your business organization through an interface upgrade and more detailed reports. The screenshot on the left shows the main dashboard when you log in. The screenshot on the right shows the new email design they have just changed to recently, which is also a good improvement over the rather plain blue background and text used previously.

sudashboard.jpgsuupgrades1.jpg

The most important new tools which Success University provided me, is a series of new videos by Tony Michaels, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. The new videos really explains very well how Success University works and how it’s numerous systems and tools help me build my business. Here’s a video explaining the VERY lucrative Team Building Bonus and another explaining Success University great compensation plan.

As you can see, the explanation by Tony Michaels is top notch. It a significant upgrade from the audio explanations they had earlier. The compensation plan video is a marked improvement over the previous audio explanation. Tony explained the entire compensation system in just 8 mins compared to the 30 minutes I remembered listening to last year.

This will certainly make things easier for me when explaining what makes Success University a great opportunity. And this is just one of the 10 new videos made available to us.

This goes to show, by a long way, how well Success University is doing throughout the years and most importantly, how the company continues to constantly improve its systems and tools to help me build my business.

I have to say 2007 ended with a disaster for me, though I have learnt a LOT and made LOTS of new friends (see previous post). When University started, it sort of came into conflict with my learning style. For over a year and a half I have been trying out various marketing techniques on the Internet, and read tons of ebooks from Internet marketing gurus, listened to hours of podcast recorded by successful online entrepreneurs, and attended numerous seminars and workshops (the highlights being World Internet Summit Singapore 2007 and Ewen Chia’s Real Internet Income workshop).

Things which I learned and able to apply directly, and see some results.

University studies was the opposite. Learn everything, and I can’t see anything in material. I was no longer the junior college student mugging constantly for some grades. I am now more towards mugging for money, which I can *see*, *touch* and *feel*.

I can no longer *feel* for all the “A’s”, “B’s” and “C’s”. Somehow grades did not matter as much to me as it did 2 years ago while in junior college. And so without doubt my first semester’s results was a COMPLETE disaster. Really the lowest I had in my life so far. Total wreck. Low enough to make a first class honours degree out of reach for me, and make me feel really sick about it. Even some of my closer friends who knew me as a “okay” student back in junior college were shocked to hear my results. I am too embarrassed to tell the rest.

But I think I deserved it though. To think 2 weeks before my exams I was still reading Jack Zufelt’s book instead of mugging on past year exam papers. Still attending OnlineIncomeHub’s weekly workshops when I should be at home studying my books. The pathetic score really hurt.

Still, does it really matter? I don’t know, but I think I should balance out both my studies and my online business evenly. For this semester I had really screwed things up, messing up my academic studies without much progress on my business. Bad way to end the year.

But a good way to start 2008. This disastrous semester drove in 3 big lessons.

  • I have to balance my priorities well

Yeah…basic stuff, but unfortunately I still suck at it. Probably because all my life I had only a single priority, which scoring well in examinations.

Now it’s no longer just exams. The latter is not going to bring me the financial base to lead the kind of life I want for myself and my parents. My business is now a major priority.

But I can’t just ditch my University studies. It’s very hard to get into Nanyang Business School and I am fortunate to get a place in it. My parents have already invested more than $30,000 for my university education, and there is no way I’m going to waste it.

Having a degree is considered a must have here in Singapore, though not necessarily for a good life (unless you are looking for a job). But I guess at the moment for me, getting a good degree is just as important as having a good system earning me tens of thousands in passive income.

The big challenge is delegating effective time and effort to both.

My business giving financial freedom and my degree giving me social status. I must have both when I graduate.

  • I must have a system to run my business, not me

I have read and advocating Rich Schefren’s Internet Business Manifesto series for some time now, and how he wonderfully describes about the importance of setting up a system to run my business, not my business running me.

Again, I did not fully understand this back then. Now after this semester I experienced how tight time can be, how great it would have been if I had a system doing all the work for me.

Submitting articles to tens of article directories and social bookmarking sites can really eat up your time, which I could have better spent on expanding my business or studying.

Same thing again…reading / learning something is not as effective as experiencing it.

It’s a good lesson learnt though.

Now that school has just started, I’m going to focus all the time I have for my business on building my automated email autoresponder series so it can do the selling for me. Last week I had completed a rough process map detailing the steps of how I’m going to submit my articles to all the directories and social bookmarking sites, all into 2 sets of instruction manuals.

I just have to find someone, pass them the manuals and pay them to do it for me.

  • I must have realistic expectations

Just before my minor started in mid December, I consulted with my upline, Patrick See who is one of the founding members of OnlineIncomeHub. He was kind enough to offer an hour’s consultation. I told him about my planned system and my goals, saying I want to hit US$6,000 in 6 months.

He then told me something very important.

Do not give yourself expectations which is too high for you when you are not clear on what to expect. You will most probably not hit it when the deadline comes, leaving you with disappointment and sense of worthlessness.

All along I always “Aim for the sky so I that if I miss, at least I’ll end up on a tree”. But the distance from the tree to the sky is still rather large though.

Patrick stated that I set my goals not truly understanding what it really takes, and what is required. He honestly told me that hitting that amount is not really possible. Instead, he advised me to keep track the amount of time I took to hit my first milestone, and then aim to achieve double the results in the same amount of time.

This will give me breathing space and goals which are reachable. And the more goals I hit, the more motivated I will be. Good lesson learnt. Thanks Patrick! :-)

Right. 2008 started last week, and next week the grueling academic studies begins. I must also finish up my email autoresponder system and start capturing prospects.

Until next time.

Just last Friday I completed 3 modules of the minor in entrepreneurship, and made lots of new friends. In fact I have to say making new friends is what I got out of most from the 3 weeks of grueling learning and working. It’s also one of the few times where I have to work non-stop for more than 38 hours without a wink of sleep. I also found out the “critical” timeslot to down a cup of coffee to keep myself awake. If I empty a cup around 12am to 1am, I can stay awake for another 14 hours before I need another cup. (Useful information huh? ;-) )

I have to give lots of credit to my friends in the project groups I worked in. I’m indeed lucky to be able to work alongside wonderful and hardworking team mates.

Thanks Daemon for letting me sleep in your hostel room so that I don’t have to spend $9 on taxi fare around 5am in the morning to rush home for a 2 hr nap, only to rush back again for the next 0830 class.

Kudos to the 2 awesome ladies, Jing Ying and Li Yee, for their NON-STOP pounding on the laptops typing out the reports THROUGHOUT the night for more than 34 hours while the rest of the group (all 4 guys…and to think 2 of us even went through National Service) knocked out / winked out one by one, in turn.

But at least I was the only guy who did not snore, giving the ladies peace when it was my turn to nap. Haha.

I also visited some of my newfound friends’ blogs, and realized how dull I was. Most spent the new year burning sparklers in the city area or drinking to their hearts’ content, while I was staying at home working on my email auto-responders. I am such a boring guy, LOL.

In the end, the three weeks spent doing my minor was a very challenging but enjoyable experience, especially when the class I’m in has SO MANY colourful characters and personalities.

Very fortunate that I took up this minor and made so many new friends!

This blog is not dead.

It has indeed been a while. My exams finished 2 weeks ago and I have been busy…relaxing and building up a new blog on MLM, with Jack Zufelt’s MLM principles in mind.

This blog has become a little too divergent, and I decided after completing Jack Zufelt’s audio CDs that I need a new blog to start anew to fully leverage on his teachings. So far the website structure has been completed, along with the direction my new blog will go.

However, after completing the first semester of my University, I realized just how tough it is to balance both my studies and my business. Honestly, I screwed up my first semester in University, doing very poorly in both sides. It’s especially frustrating when I learned so much from Jack Zufelt’s CDs but just can’t spend the time to put them into action due to my examinations.

After less than 2 weeks of rest, I starting school again for my Minor. It’s from this lack of time that I realized how IMPORTANT it is to set up a system to run my business so I can minimize the amount of time spent on my blogs and at the same time maximise the output of my efforts.

From this point of view, Rich Schefren’s teachings in his Internet Marketing Manifesto series, Michael Gerber’s E-Myth, and Timothy Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Workweek (Just completed the book. AN EXCELLENT READ!!) all came into my head. Setting up a system to run your business is very important so I would not become “owned” by my business, especially when I am currently pursuing my University studies.

But setting up this system is rather challenging, and most importantly it’s going to cost some money too. So I have to do calculations to make sure that the amount of cashflow coming in will offset the money flowing out.

Back to work! But before I go, Rich Schefren just released his second volume of his Attention Age series. Be sure to grab it!

Exams starts in 5 days time, and as usual rushing to catch up with the revisions.

The pace in university is SO MUCH faster than back in junior college. In JC, we spent 2 years covering an Economics textbook.

In university we cover that in less than 4 months. And I am taking 4 modules this semester, that means 4 textbooks to digest in 4 months. The smallest text book is about 600 pages.

In short…the past few weeks and for the next 2 weeks I will be spending my attention full-time on my exams. Only after this is over and the holidays have started will I be able to continue building my online business.

In the process of finding ways to speed up my revision, I started to use a mind-mapping software extensively. Its rather effective, and most importantly it’s FREE too. Check out one of the mindmaps I have done while revising.

Very useful indeed. Here’s the download link if you’re interested

 http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Download the latest beta version. The current stable version is really lacking compared to the latest beta versions.

That’s all for now. Will be back soon!
