What a fright!

I was posting in the forums about how to get traffic to my blog, when someone point out that affiliate links are not allowed in Wordpress.com I was a little surprised, and actually went over to blogger.com and look at some online hosting solutions to find options.

When I came back here, logged in and Wordpress.com stated "Blog Suspended"

WHAT?!?

Immediately used another log in name and posted my grievances on the forums here in Wordpress, and one was nice to point out where and how to get my blog back online again.

So I submitted a request and my blog is back again.

Of course I immediately deleted all affiliate links off my blog. Now I am in a little crossroad.

Transfer everything over to Blogger.com? Blogger.com seems to be quite limited in features, from what I have seen so far. And its going to take some time to bring everything over to Blogger.com. But it allows me to post affiliate links and use Google Analytics to track traffic.

Remain at Wordpress? By now I am rather used to the interface in Wordpress…but feel very restricted by not being able to post affiliate links. Wanted to post a review with links to direct traffic to buy the product, guess I can't do that now.

Get a host and get this blog onto it? I will have maximum control over what I want to do here…but costs money. :(

I guess I will just proceed on with Wordpress first, and see how things go.

You can post links to the product you want to review. They just can’t include affliate codes.

Gotta admit that I was surprised that you didn’t include affliate links in all of the posts that I came across. That and your politeness on the issue was what brought your blog online. Most of the blogs that deleted around here, that’s all you see.

    Hey Mike!

Guess I was REALLY LUCKY to have handled things correctly and to have you around. :)
If not…I am telling you, I will be pulling my hair out!

    Thanks again Mike!

One tool any affiliate should not be without is an affiliate link cloaker. Affiliate link cloakers will mask and disguise your affiliate links to help prevent affiliate link hijacking. Anyone who has done affiliate marketing before knows about this.

There is a free service at http://www.urlfreeze.com that you can use to help fight against affiliate link hijacking. Hope that helps.

    Yeah…that was so long ago.

I guess it’s our nature to omit the details until they sting us right in the back don’t we?
