I’m An Information Addict…And Here’s The Proof That I’m Guilty.
Posted by: Thien Kai Wei in Information Overload, Internet Marketing Recommendations, PersonalRich Schefren stated the following in his latest free report “The Attention Age Doctrine”
Just for a second, think about how incredibly addicted we all are to information as consumers.
Some experts have said that we consumers are experiencing nothing short of an all-encompassing INFOLUST:
“Experienced consumers are lusting after detailed information on where to get the best of the best, the cheapest of the cheapest, the first of the first, the healthiest of the healthiest, the coolest of the coolest, or on how to become the smartest of the smartest. Instant information gratification is upon us.“
So…I have taken photos of all the Internet Marketing eBooks I have read over the last 6 months, which I either brought or are free for downloaded. Click on the photos to see them clearly.

Stacked up, here’s what it’s like compared to my favourite cup I call Duckie.
There are 4 more eBooks which I printed out but have not read yet, along with another stack of notes.
And these are just the eBooks which I bothered to print out. There are some more eBooks I read directly from my monitor (which I HATE to do) due to their smaller amount of content (around 20 pages) or which I simply felt the information is simply not worth the time to print out. Below is a screenshot of all the numerous eBooks…reports…teleseminars…which I went through the last 6 months. Those printed eBooks shown above are amongst these files.
And these are just for the last 6 months. For the year of 2006 while I was building my first online store with my StoresOnline package, I have also downloaded and read numerous reports on how courier services work, how VeriSign works, how Paypal works, how to integrate Paypal into eCommerce websites, amongst the various stuff.
And for the matter, here is the shelf of business related books which I brought in 2005 and have not finish reading.
I managed to finish reading all the books to the left of and including Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (a Great book
). But alas, I couldn’t apply what I read in all these books into what I’m doing now, and have mostly forgotten what most of these books taught. I mean…why should I be reading about mergers and acquisitions in Jack Welch’s Winning when I am still building my online business?
I’m not sure if the stuff here is a lot to you, and I believe it’s nothing compared to the amount most successful people have read.
But what I’m pointing out is that I realized that I have read so much…but achieved so little. Rich Schefren hit it on the spot when he said some people are just so addicted to information, who want to know absolutely everything before they take action. I think it’s another big reason (other than the ones I stated in this previous post) why I did not much to show for my online business yet other than this blog.
Just last week, I attended a workshop conducted by Roger Loh and his team, and saw how newbies who have only started internet marketing 2 months ago, with no prior experience, finalizing their opt-in pages (complete with self made videos uploaded to Youtube…) and implementing their opt-in boxes using autoresponders.
Those newbies are really total newbies. I listened to one of the tutors explaining to one of them how to organize her files uploaded onto her server, something which is chicken to me. BTW, she has created a sales letter page with an embedded YouTube video which she recorded herself, and set up an Opt-In box using Aweber (an autoresponder service).
Now, 1 year and 7 months later (beginning from Nov ‘05 when I brought my StoresOnline package) I have only built KaiWorksOnline.Com selling wooden toys (which I stopped working on due to high operating costs…) and this blog InternetMarketing4Noobs.Com.
What a joke really. I read so much yet did so little. Addicted to Information.
Roger Loh also told me that he knew of one couple who plunge over US$50,000 attending workshops, seminars and have not a single website to show for it. That’s really an extreme case.
So to those of us who are starting out in Internet Marketing, please do not try and gobble all the eBooks you get your hands on, or sign up for every workshop you come across. It’s not going work that way, it didn’t work for me. The most important thing to do…
IS TO TAKE ACTION!
Same old line…repeated thousands of times by successful people, but sadly not really understood by many people.
Don’t drown yourself with all the information like I did, seeking to know everything and getting yourself “frozen” solid. You’ll end up more confused than you were before and have nothing to show for the money and time spent.
Take information drip by drip, and immediately implement what you learnt from those drips of information. Find out what you have to learn, find just the information needed and get started quickly.
That’s all for this post. I hope you have realized that too much information is hardly any good!

Hi Tian Wei,
Wow! I found another information addict like me. Lolx… I think someday we can take out all our prized books and compete to see who is more of an information addict.
Keep up the good work. Can see that your blog is flourishing well.
