I’ll be upfront about John Reese’s latest offering to the Internet Marketing community.
Traffic Secrets 2.0 will be great for some and may be a disappointment for others.
I’m somewhere in between. This may come as a shocker for anyone who has visited my blog’s resource page and saw how jubilant I was about Traffic Secrets 2.0.
Let me explain.
I have been learning and applying traffic generation techniques for some time now, and saw some good results, especially with social marketing. However, my sore point is that results with Google Adwords is still dismal.
And it was back sometime in May ‘08, when I saw a blog post about John Reese preping his Traffic Secrets 2.0 for release.
I have long heard of John Reese, enjoyed reading his blog and came to understand how he is one of the leading edge experts in driving traffic and making money online.
John Reese got the goods to show for it…a huge house with large aquarium which required one guy to don on his snorkel mask and swm in among his pet fishes to clean the tank.
The price was great…at $397 Traffic Secrets 2.0 was a steal compared to the other programs offered by other experts, which often number in the thousands. When Traffic Secrets 2.0 was released I grabbed it.
The package arrived 3 weeks later, and here’s what I got.
Great packaging. But it’s the content which matters most, so let’s get into it.
As I wanted more help with Google Adwords, I went straight for the Adwords Mastery CD and pop it into my computer.
I’ll be very frank.
I was rather impressed with the quality of the presentation, and John Reese certainly did a great job presenting it through powerpoint style slides and on screen captures of him doing some basic keyword research. He did a perfect job presenting the information in a clear voice.
However after finishing the Adwords Mastery CD…I begin to worry.
Some of the video segments were very SHORT. Some weren’t even 2 minutes long. I quickly pop in other CDs…Keyword Mastery…Content Factory…Social Strategy, and found some of the clips were equally short too.
Disappointment began to tighten its grip as I started to wonder why did I pay $397 + shipping for a nice box with CDs containing short clips of videos.
Not all the video clips were that short. Having gone through the entire course, all the CDs at least have over 90 mins worth of clips in it.
But being someone who has some experience and results driving traffic, I was expecting MUCH more from Traffic Secrets 2.0. More in-depth video tutorials with John Reese showing you how to group your Adwords campaign…how to organize your keyword spreadsheet…how to set up a good landing page…some examples of great Adwords campaigns and how to maintain them…the like.
Instead what John Reese did was go through an overview of each segment of the topic at hand. For example he used a powerpoint style slide to explain what must be done to earn a great Quality landing page so you will be charged lower fees per click.
To be fair, I did learn quite a couple of new stuff. From the Adwords Mastery CD,
- I never realized that Google actually scans through the landing page which you bring your visitor to after they click on your Adwords text ad.
- I never knew you can actually check the Quality score of the keywords and their corresponding landing pages.
- I never knew that Google judge the quality of the landing page by scanning what the dominant keywords were and whether they are the same keywords the ad group is built around.
I was running a campaign in the highly contested “lead” keywords. Initially I couldn’t even get the campaign to run because the minimum PPC cost was $15!! and I wasn’t prepared to spend that kind of money.

You can imagine how delighted I was to finally get that campaign to start, and I have collecting leads from that campaign ever since.
After that I went through all the CDs, I came to a conclusion.
Traffic Secrets 2.0 Isn’t Really About
The Latest In Traffic Generation, It More Towards
The Cutting Edge In Online Business Strategy.
The whole package is towards using the various proven traffic generation tactics and tying them together into a cohesive strategy for your online business.
In his first 2 CDs of Traffic Secrets 2.0, John Reese keep empathizing about finding out what is already working, observe what the competition is doing and basically doing it better than them.
You can start to understand what John Reese really want to give in his Traffic Secrets 2.0 via the Blueprint lists he provided as part of the package. They are the coloured pieces of paper you saw in the photo above.
Reading through the list of action steps in the Blueprints, John Reese is actually going through the entire process of starting an online business and moving it through to the final stage of maintaining and improving the business. The main purpose of Traffic Secrets 2.0.
The very first list gets you to register for all the essential accounts you will need, such as setting up a calendar at Google Docs to keep track of activities…registering a domain name…setting up a spreadsheet to manage your keyword research…setting up a Content Management System…the like.
So in fact…I personally think the main value in of the Traffic Secrets 2.0 package isn’t in the video CDs showing you all the various traffic generation tactics but it’s the clear and concise STEP-BY-STEP Blueprint action plans that John Reese has laid out for you to follow.
Step-by-step action plans which are the strategies John Reese use to build his multi-million internet businesses.
What you learn in the video CDs are just to fulfill the action steps in the Blueprint lists.
So really, Traffic Secrets 2.0 is about internet marketing strategy…not internet marketing techniques. And if done right…someone with the right strategy using basic internet marketing techniques will tramp everyone else with superior internet marketing techniques but no strategy to coordinate it all.
Here’s what John Reese himself said.

A great reminder of how much we have to do, and have to implement and move quickly.
On top of the Blueprint list and the Action Tracker, he has a resource page for us to keep track of the latest developments and for further information on how to implement what he taught in the CDs.

Absolutely.
Back when I first started in internet marketing, I was drowning in the information that I had to learn.
